THE EMEZI SISTERS.

Running through the INTERNET, I found these "sisters' of mine, who are from my state, ABIA STATE, IN NIGERIA. AKWAEKE EMEZI AND YAGAZIE EMEZI. Both are extremely artsy beings. I love the aura of nature and simplicity they ooze. It gives me "INDIE VIBES'' i'm inspired. They grew up in Umuahia and Aba in Abia State, before later moving to the United States of America.

  • AKWAEKWE EMEZI.

WRITER, FILMAKER AND PHOTOGRAPHER.
Her bio on her website reads- Akwaeke Emezi is an Igbo and Tamil writer and filmmaker based in liminal spaces. She was born in Umuahia and raised in Aba, Nigeria. Her work is often set in a landscape of disquietude, excavating the surface to reveal forces of psychosexual dislocation and violence. Brutal and surreal, it pushes past comfortable morality to honestly explore the margins of humanity.
Here are some of her amazing photos.

ARTIST FEATURE x TwoMacks

With today presenting it's fair share of ups and downs, I thank God for life. Eventful day from the continued search/protests for the missing (about 234 in number) girls in my country, Nigeria, I would just describe this as inhumane. SIGN THE PETITION TO GET THESE GIRLS BACK HOME HERE !!
Through and through, I was able to find inspiration to post, and I found it in WHITNEY .C. MITCHELL ( TwoMacks). I cannot remember how I found her, but I went through her Instagram for about 30 minutes and I did my research, and I want to share. The kind of artist I love, with amazing photographs, realer than life and close to home, I was blown away by the simplicity, with a tinge of complexity of these pictures and more........

q & a

What happens:
-
to butterflies when he’s touched all the wings?
- if dared to befriend a man once loved?
- if opportunity knocks on hollowed doors?
- if the red bull is flat?
- if everything said was someone’s stolen truth?

Answer.
- you learn to toss the caterpillars that fear the brew of your cocoon.
- chose truth, set ink on idle hands and drink as much ice cream as possible.
- keep writing, God’s favor ushers in patience and choice.
- borrow used wings.
- remind yourself what boundaries protect, look in the mirror and kiss beauty a time for each moment of neglect.

when answers aren’t enough, dreaming is the remedy.

ARTIST FEATURE - Carrie Mae Weems.

Discovering Carrie Mae Weems was no accident. Doing research about Visual Arts, I ran across her name on a number of occasions, and watching the BET Honors televised programme, she was a honoree, and it rang a bell, I definitely had to find out more, and after my journey into her work, I was propelled to do a special feature on this moving piece of ART.
Carrie was born on the 20th of April, 1953,in Portland, Oregon. One notable quote she made recently, further endearing me to her was,"Black experience is not really the main point, rather, complex, dimensional, human experience and social inclusion..is the real point. Another notable one,"The ideas I'm working with are ideas I'm committed to.I don't know how to soft-shoe them. I don't know how to make them more palpable".  I went through most of Carrie's works and I'll just show the  very one that inspired me most, which is one of Carrie's most prominent, The Kitchen Table Series, 1990. Kitchen table series is a photographic investigation of a single domestic space, where there were staged scenes of "battle around the family" between different levels of family. Racist themes and sexist labels debunked, Carrie examines the relationship between power and aesthetics, and uses personal biography to articulate broader truths. I could relate to Kitchen table series, in a simple way. We all have family, and there are different activities, and emotions running at all times. So, in the simplicity of a family, there is borderline complexity that makes it function. The battle between sexes for Power and beyond into further dynamics. These were depicted in form of ART. You can see the emotions running through every picture in the very basic unit of Life. Here are some images from Kitchen Table Series Below.

Carrie used Photography as her tool of expression in this body of work. The fact that they can stand alone, and pass their message without any analysis is what inspired me. In a society where we hardly recognize Artists like Carrie, it was paramount to celebrate her work. "Weems positions herself as history's ghost''-- Nancy Princethal, Art in America.
